Okay, so season three of Yellowjackets has come and gone and I am not emotionally over it but I also know that there will be a giant void missing from my television experience.
I mean, where else am I going to get cannibalistic, LGBTQ teens that hunt each other and those same adults who act like the most unhinged versions of themselves. Every time I hear Radiohead or see a deck of cards, I miss those girls. In missing them, it is now my mission to find shows that will help me ease the pain of waiting for another season and potentially not even getting one. So, if you’re in the same boat as me, check out this list of shows that will hopefully give you some Yellowjackets vibes–and where to watch them.
Amazon Prime Video
The Wilds is probably the closest show you will find to Yellowjackets. This show is about a group of diverse teenage girls who are stranded on a deserted island after their plane crashes. The girls must learn to survive together, but what they don’t know is that they are the subjects of a social experiment and this whole situation is a simulation. The show also features LGBTQ themes and a few relationships and those dynamics on the island. The Wilds is streaming on Prime Video.
ABC
Lost is also a similar vibe to Yellowjackets in that the story begins with a plane crash and all of the survivors landing on a remote, lush island. Lost takes a huge turn when the survivors discover that there are a bunch of underground bunkers, crazy survivalists, and each of the survivors is harboring a sinister secret. Lost is cemented as one of the best television shows of all time, so it’s totally worth checking out if you haven’t already. Lost is streaming on Netflix and Hulu.
Netflix
So, Santa Clarita Diet isn’t the same as Yellowjackets in the sense of plane crashes and needing to survive the wilderness, but it does have cannibalism! Santa Clarita Diet is about two married realtors who are struggling to keep their intimacy and wake up every day to a somewhat unfulfilling life. One day, the wife goes through a transformation that helps her feel better than ever, but the caveat is that she must consume human flesh to keep the good vibes going. Santa Clarita Diet is streaming on Netflix.
Showtime
This show is likely the furthest in relation to the core plot of Yellowjackets, but if you’re part of the LGBTQ community and you’ve enjoyed seeing more representation of lesbian characters and relationships, The L Word is for you. The L Word follows a group of lesbians living in LA in the early 2000s and all that they have to deal with in terms of friendships, relationship dynamics, homophobia, and finding a place in a world that often judges them. There are other spin-offs of the show, including The L Word: Generation Q and also the reality television version, The Real L Word. The L Word is streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime.
