With a narrative universe that stretches across hundreds of planets, thousands of alien species, and millions of characters, there’s no shortage of potential material for future Star Wars content.

With plenty of new additions to the sprawling sci-fi franchise continuously making their way to Disney+ or movie theaters across the globe, Star Wars has regularly weaved together new and exciting storylines about some of the series’ most famous fan-favorite characters.

While it’s certainly nice to see live-action or animated explorations about Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan, or Maul, it’s also worth wondering which other characters could provide the basis for a television spin-off in their own right. From insidious Sith Lords to quick-drawing bounty hunters, here are seven Star Wars characters we’d love to see receive their very own spin-off at some point in the years ahead.

Qui-Gon Jinn

When The Phantom Menace first arrived in 1999, many people might have assumed that Liam Neeson’s kind-hearted Qui-Gon Jinn would play a central role in the Prequels. With the character’s unexpected death near the end of the film, however, any hopes for subsequent Qui-Gon-related films were quickly put to rest. With so much about the character’s story unknown prior to The Phantom Menace, it’s safe to say viewers would love to learn additional details about his backstory, such as his mentorship to Obi-Wan, his apprenticeship with Count Dooku, and his growing dissatisfaction with the philosophies of the Jedi Order.

Darth Bane

Few periods continue to enthrall Star Wars fans quite as much as the foundational years of the Jedi Order and the birth of their spiritual counterparts, the Sith. With that being said, it’s worth wondering whether we might eventually see a prequel series focused on the Jedi and Sith’s respective origins, something that could come about with a project centered on Darth Bane. Often credited for establishing the core characteristics of the Sith, Bane specifically cemented the all-important rule of two within the shadowy Dark Force order, ensuring the faction’s survival in the wake of rampant infighting and continuous betrayals between master and apprentice. With much of Bane’s backstory rendered non-canon with Disney’s acquisition of Star Wars, there exists plenty of worthwhile material for the company to adapt in future media.

Jango Fett

We’ve already seen a Boba Fett TV series – why not also see an origin story rooted around his bounty hunting father, Jango? Whether producers choose to create their own original storyline or base their spin-off off of the cult favorite video game Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, it’s clear that there’s endless potential for a Jango-centric miniseries on Disney+. Not only could the showrunners provide a feasible depiction of Jango’s origins, past connection to the Mandalorians, and his role in serving as the DNA template for the Grand Army of the Republic; it could also shed further light on Count Dooku’s exit from the Jedi Order and his relationship to Sifo-Dyas – something only marginally hinted at in Attack of the Clones and The Clone Wars series.

Qi’ra

If Andor has proven anything, it’s that Star Wars can indeed veer towards some unexpectedly dark territory. Just as the series manages to conjure up the atmosphere of a tense espionage thriller, so too might Star Wars one day establish a layered crime story modeled after Goodfellas, The Sopranos, or The Godfather (albeit set in space, of course). With that in mind, what better character is there to focus on than Emilia Clarke’s charismatic crime boss Qi’ra from Solo: A Star Wars Story? With so much of her story remaining a mystery, fans have continuously expressed their hopes for one day seeing Clarke return to the role. In addition to focusing on her partnership with Maul, a TV spin-off could also provide a deep-dive into her gradual ascent in the criminal underworld, as well as her various alliances and rivalries with such factions as the Hutt Clan, the Pyke Syndicate, and the Black Sun.

Captain Rex

Ahsoka Tano isn’t the only breakout character from The Clone Wars who has won over the hearts and minds of fans across the globe. Leaving behind a similarly indelible impression on viewers, Captain Rex has become one of the most beloved members of the larger Clone Army, eclipsing the popularity of his fellow Clone troops Cody, Hevy, Fives, or Echo. That being said, we’d absolutely love to see a Dave Filoni-produced spin-off centered around the former 501st Legion commander. From focusing on his initial training period on Kamino, to his fugitive years amidst the rise of the Empire, to his later membership in the Rebel Alliance, there’s unlimited creative potential for a series following Rex’s intergalactic adventures abroad.

Darth Plagueis

“Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?” No? Well, in that case, it’s probably due for a TV series. Though his apprentice/eventual murderer Palpatine revealed his story to Anakin in Revenge of the Sith, further details about this shadowy Sith Lord remain relatively scarce. Given his recent appearance in The Acolyte, it’s worth wondering what other potential stories could be told with Darth Plagueis cast in a central role. From a prospective tie-in into his cameo on The Acolyte to a pre-Phantom Menace origin story detailing his fateful mentorship over Palpatine, few stories mystify Star Wars fans quite as fully as Darth Plagueis’.

Darth Vader

20th Century Fox

As one of the most iconic villains in Star Wars’ history, few characters are as deserving of a full-fledged spin-off as Darth Vader. With numerous comic books, Expanded Universe novels, video games, and TV series depicting his life in between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, there are numerous directions a potential series about Vader might take, including his struggles to put his past life as Anakin behind him and embrace his new identity as Palpatine’s apprentice. Not only that, any TV series focusing on Vader could introduce certain well-loved characters from Star Wars’ larger canonical universe, including the rogue archaeologist Doctor Aphra, the torture-loving protocol droid 0-0-0, or the assassin astromech droid BT-1.
