Zombie movies are a favorite subgenre among horror fans. It is fascinating to watch a group of humans struggle to survive in a suddenly post-apocalyptic world. Not only are they chased by brain-eating ghouls, but the characters have to figure out the basics of survival without the modern infrastructure we rely on. Now, one of the best zombie movies ever made has just been added to Netflix.

Train to Busan (2016) is a South Korean action horror movie that follows a workaholic, Seok-woo (Gong Yoo). On the day of his daughter’s birthday, Seok-woo takes her on a train to visit her mother in Busan. As the train moves from Seoul to Busan, an injured woman dies and transforms into a zombie. The infection rapidly moves through the passengers and soon fast moving zombies outnumber survivors.

Busan is a landmark South Korean horror movie due to its commercial success. It grossed just short of $100 million worldwide and was the first film from South Korea to be seen by more than 10 million people in theaters. The movie was followed by a standalone sequel, Peninsula (2020), about four people who seek to find a truck containing $20 million in zombie-infested South Korea.

Both Train to Busan and Peninsula are now streaming on Netflix.
