There’s nothing quite like watching a worthwhile action movie from the comfort and safety of your home.

Whether marveling at a high-stakes spy thriller or gripping the arms of your chair at an explosive sci-fi film, a decent action movie has the potential to capture and hold our interest from its magnetic start up to its satisfying conclusion. Fortunately, Paramount+ has plenty of fantastic action movies currently lining its digital catalog. From sweeping historical epics to impeccable espionage films, here are some of the greatest action movies streaming on Paramount+ as we speak, ranked in order from worst to best.

Gladiator II (2024)

Is it historically accurate? No, not in the slightest. But like its Oscar-winning predecessor, Gladiator II builds itself up to be the ultimate sword-and-sandals epic, perfectly melding high-octane action with plenty of gripping performances. Again, it may not act as a wholly judicious portrayal of Ancient Rome, but between its animal-centric gladiator brawls and flooded Colosseum battles, there’s enough hearty material here to keep viewers hooked from the very get-go.

Star Trek (2009)

Most dedicated Trekkies would likely point to The Wrath of Khan as the series’ best installment. But it’s also worth pointing out the inherent charm of 2009’s Star Trek. Rebooting the series while also providing a refreshing spin on the younger crew members of the U.S.S. Enterprise, Star Trek offers up a fittingly energetic take on the classic Original Series, right down to the appearances of numerous iconic characters like James Kirk, Lieutenant Uhura, and two different iterations of the dry-witted Vulcan, Mr. Spock.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018)

With The Final Reckoning looming on the horizon, there’s never been a better time to circle back and revisit some of the Mission: Impossible series’ previous entries. While we’d certainly recommend rewatching the franchise’s most recent installment, Dead Reckoning, we’d also be remiss if we didn’t mention the electric action of 2018’s Fallout. Thoughtfully portraying the serious repercussions of Rogue Nation, Fallout continues Mission: Impossible’s upward trajectory towards exciting new heights. Bolstered by a scene-stealing Henry Cavill and some of the most awe-inspiring stunts you’ll ever see on-screen, it’s an espionage thriller that will no doubt live on as one of the greatest in the genre, akin to Raiders of the Lost Ark, Goldfinger, or The Dark Knight before it.
